Similarly to myeolchi bokkeum, jiri myeolchi bokkeum brings together crispy, sticky, sweet and savory excellence, but with a twist. What distinguishes this dish is the jiri anchovies, which are the smallest of its kind. The dish has a saucier composition than the larger myeolchi bokkeum, as well as a unique, tantalizing texture. This satisfying dish has notes of nuttiness and punches of spice as it contains jalapeno and pecans. Anchovies are filled with protein, calcium and Omega-3s, making them as healthy as they are delicious.

Dried anchovies are available in several sizes: the largest are often used for making broth, while the medium and smallest varieties are most commonly used for banchans. Jiri myeolchi bokkeum is a traditional Korean mit-banchan. “Mit" means foundation and “Banchan" means side dish, meaning this dish is truly a foundational element of Korean culture.
